Weight Gain Due To Fruit Consumption A 2016 study, published in the journal Nutrients suggests fruit can actually reduce the risk of obesity.10) A study from 2011, RCT compared two diets: a low fructose diet from both added sugars and fruit (group A) and one that consisted of fresh fruit only (B). Weight loss was higher in group B (4.19 kg) than in group A (2.83 kg). Is Eating Too Much Fruit Harmful To Our Health? According to a South African study, in which participants had 20 servings of fruit/ day, plus 40% of their calories from nuts, there were no adverse effects for body weight, blood pressure, insulin and lipid levels, at least for the duration of the study, which was 6 months. 12 Another study from 2001 reported similar results. 3 different diets were compared: -high-vegetable, fruit, and nut (very-high-fiber) versus (A) -starch-based containing cereals and legumes (early agricultural diet) versus (B) -low-fat (contemporary therapeutic diet) (C) They also recorded a considerable drop in LDL.13 12) Meyer, B. Can Diabetics Eat Fresh Fruit? Fruit is beneficial for diabetics according to a Danish study from 2013. It was investigated whether reduced fruit intake had an effect on their HbA1c, bodyweight and waist circumference. Two groups: one group was told to eat at least two pieces of fruit a day, and the other group was told to eat more than two pieces a day. The group who reduced their fruit consumption didn’t see any effect on the control of their diabetes or weight. The researchers concluded that patients with type 2 diabetes should not reduce their fruit intake.14) 14) Christensen, Allan S., et al. Conclusion According to a 2009 study published in the Medscape Journal of Medicine, fewer than 1 in 10 Americans meet the minimum daily fruit recommendation, which is 2 cups of fruit per day.
