Arterial conduits are blood vessels used in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) to bypass blocked or narrowed coronary arteries. There are two main types of arterial conduits used in CABG: the internal thoracic artery (ITA) and the radial artery.

The ITA, also known as the internal mammary artery, is the most commonly used arterial conduit in CABG surgery. It is located in the chest wall and is easily accessible during surgery. Studies have shown that the ITA is more durable and has a better long-term patency rate than vein grafts. Using the ITA as a bypass graft has been associated with better long-term survival rates and reduced risk of cardiac events compared to vein grafts.

The radial artery is another arterial conduit used in CABG surgery. It is located in the arm and is also easily accessible during surgery. Studies have shown that the radial artery can also be a good alternative to vein grafts, with similar patency rates and long-term outcomes.

In general, arterial conduits have been found to be superior to vein grafts in CABG surgery. Arterial conduits have better long-term patency rates and are less likely to become blocked or narrow over time. However, the decision to use arterial conduits in CABG surgery depends on individual patient factors and the surgeons preference and experience.
